What to Wear for a Newborn Photoshoot (Wokingham Studio Guide for Mums)
What to Wear for a Newborn Photoshoot in Wokingham
If you're planning a newborn photoshoot in Wokingham, one of the biggest questions is what to wear. The good news is — it doesn’t need to be complicated. In my Wokingham studio, I guide mums towards soft, neutral outfits that feel comfortable and photograph beautifully, so you can focus on enjoying those early moments with your baby.
What Photographs Beautifully in a Newborn Photoshoot
These are the styles I recommend to mums visiting my Wokingham newborn photography studio.
Neutral Tones - Sticking to a natural colour palette is a great idea for your newborn photoshoot. Whites/creams/light browns etc will always be a classic look so your photos won’t date. They are also easy to co-ordinate, allowing you to find something for all members of the family to wear easily. They also look LUSH in photos.
Soft Textures - These can add another level to your images, so look for stretchy knits or soft lace.
What to avoid -
bright/clashing colours
bold patterns
large logos or words
What Mums Should Wear
You’ve just had a baby - comfort matters just as much as style. I’m not talking about rocking up in your gym wear or pyjamas, but keeping it fairly casual can help you feel more comfortable. If you’re not one for dressing formally usually then you’re not going to feel yourself in your photos if you’re wearing a ball gown, so stick to your own style and rock the sh*t out of it.
If you’re breastfeeding then nursing-friendly clothing might make things easier for you during your newborn photoshoot.
What to Dress Your Baby In
I provide wraps and styling in my Wokingham studio, so you don’t need to worry about bringing lots. A simple bodysuit or baby grow is ideal for baby to wear. They’ll be comfortable and won’t get ‘lost’ in more complicated outfits.
What About Partners & Siblings?
Coordinating as a family helps create timeless, relaxed images without anything feeling too “posed”. It’s important that Siblings feel involved in your newborn photoshoot, so help them join in by putting them in the colours you have chosen for your outfits. Remember that if they’re in anything too uncomfortable they’ll quickly lose patience, so keep it simple and comfortable for them too.
Dress for a warm studio
Most newborn photography studios are warm to help keep baby feeling comfortable. For us older humans it can feel warmer than we’re used to at home, so dress accordingly. Don’t wear your thermals, even if it is arctic outside. Layers are a great way of maintaining a comfortable temperature as my Wokingham studio is always toasty warm.
Shoes
Don’t worry about shoes. I ask all of my families to remove their shoes when they’re being photographed, so don’t put too much thought into them. The main thing to consider is what you’ll be wearing inside them - socks! An image can very quickly be ruined by a rogue pair of bright red socks or old socks with holes.
